Why own a Donkey
Pets... donkeys make great pets and friends

Caring for your Donkey
Donkeys are easy to care for. They don't require high quality feed like most horses. I feed mainly grass hay to the adults and I creep feed some grain to the colts. I also like to keep mineral blocks out to help supplement any nutrients not found in the hay. Of course for every article you read you will find as many ways to feed your donkey so you will just have to experiment to find what works best for you. Note: your adult donkeys can get too fat. The first sign being the top of their neck becoming too large. This is not good for donkeys and almost impossible to reverse by diet.Hoof Care
All donkeys are different when it comes to how often they need their hooves trimmed. The time of year will also play a part in the time between trimming. You can contact your local veterinary or farriers for help with hoof trimming. Shoes are not requires unless you plan to ride or take the donkey out on gravel roads. There may be vaccination or immunization shots required, again, check with your local veterinary for more information.
